"EHFA REPRESENTATION REACHES MORE THAN 9,000 HEALTH & FITNESS FACILITIES IN 23 EUROPEAN COUNTRIES "

The European Health and Fitness Association (EHFA), the primary representative body of the European health and fitness industry, has expanded its membership beyond the 9,054 facilities mark, taking EHFA's reach to 23 countries for the first time.

In addition, three National Associations have recently added their support to the mission to persuade the European Commission to invest in getting more people, more active, more often. "The largest German Fitness Employers Association, DSSV, has joined EHFA as a member, together with ILAM, the Irish Association and PZFW, the sector association from Poland.

Herman Rutgers, Executive Director, comments: “We have a very ambitious five year plan, which will be unveiled at our next General Assembly in Essen on 23 April 2010. We need a maximum support from all key stakeholders in Europe in order to accomplish this plan. Our reach is now through 16 National Associations, and we are supporting them from Brussels. There are still a number of countries where no national association exists and it is our goal to help these countries to establish good industry representation”.

The “new” EHFA, based in Brussels, has been operating for just over two years. The recent growth in membership and support enforces the association’s position as the largest fitness association in Europeand one of the largest in the world.

This flourishing development is strengthened by the constant moral and financial support provided by the European Commission to EHFA activities.

Note:

The European health and fitness sector generates €22 billion in revenue, employs 370,000 people and serves 40 million members in public and private health & fitness facilities across Europe. Based in Brussels, EHFA, with its origins in 1996 as a not-for-profit organisation, represents the interests of the European health & fitness sector at the EU level. Its objective is “More People, More Active, More Often”. EHFA is also a standards setting body and promotes best practices in instruction and training to help combat the inactivity and obesity challenges spreading across Europe. EHFA represents more than 9,000 facilities across Europe, as well as national associations, operators, suppliers, training providers and other stakeholders.
